This is a premium lounge designed for the customers of Matsuya Ginza and JCB. To capture the essence of Ginza-the project’s location-we sought to express its allure in a single word: “gloss”. We made this texture, which is cloaked in light, filled with emotion, and changes its expression with the presence of people, the core theme of the lounge space. In a modern space based on white, we placed “Edo purple” as an accent color to bring together dignified beauty and Japanese tradition. The clear contrast between white and purple leaves a vivid impression on visitors. The original space before renovation featured a layout that extended toward the back and a rhythmical sequence of windows reaching up to the ceiling. To make the most of that potential, we used reflective materials on the ceiling and designed the space so that natural light from outside and symbolic lighting from within would spread throughout the interior. The volume of light, the gentle glow of floor lamps, and the shoji screens illuminated by natural light from the windows softly reflect off the ceiling and walls, gradually filling the entire space. This scene evokes the glittering particles of light found in Ginza’s architecture and show windows, and allows the lounge to resonate as part of the cityscape. The space begins with a calm sofa area following the entrance, transitions into a central zone filled with volumes of light, and finally leads to a slightly solemn area wrapped in Edo purple. Within this single, continuous environment, we created a series of layers with differing textures and emotional qualities. Our goal was to create a lounge that feels both fresh and profound by translating the spirit of “en,” which symbolizes the essence of Ginza, into a modern expression through materials, light, and spatial composition.

松屋銀座とJCBの顧客のためのプレミアムラウンジのデザイン。ロケーションである銀座という街の魅力を一言で表すならば、それは「艶」にあると考えた。光を纏い、情緒をまとい、人の気配とともに表情を変えるその質感をラウンジ空間の核となるテーマとした。白を基調としたモダンな空間に、「江戸紫」を挿し色として配することで、凛とした美しさと日本の伝統を同居させた。白と紫という潔い色彩のコントラストが、訪れる人の記憶に鮮やかに刻まれる。リノベーション前の空間が持っていた、奥へと続く伸びやかな構成と、リズミカルに並ぶ天井まで届く窓。そのポテンシャルを活かすため、天井に光を反射する素材を用い、外からの自然光や室内の象徴的な照明が空間全体に広がる設計とした。光のボリューム、フロアランプの穏やかな光、窓から射し込む自然光を受けた障子が、天井や壁にやわらかく反射しながら空間を満たしていく。その風景は、銀座の街に点在する建築の灯りやショーウィンドウといったきらめく光の粒子たちを想起させ、このラウンジを都市の風景の一部として呼応させる。エントランスから続くしっとりとしたソファエリア、光のボリュームに挟まれた中央部、そして奥には江戸紫に包まれる少し厳かな空間。ひとつながりの空間の中に、異なる質感と感情のレイヤーを持たせた。銀座という街が持つ「艶」の精神を、素材・光・構成を通じて現代的に翻訳した、新鮮でありながら深みのあるラウンジを目指した。
